A clean-burning gas fuel, zero emissions and high energy density — considered the fuel of the future.

A renewable gas chemically identical to natural gas, offering a high energy output and compatibility with existing gas infrastructure.

A carbon-negative, soil-enriching charcoal that captures carbon and enhances soil fertility.
Biomass-to-green gas
Prepare the biomass
Biomass residues are dried and shredded into pieces around 1 cm in size. This step allows the BIOSHIFT plant to process the biomass fully automatically and with maximum efficiency.
Biomass gasification
Using surplus renewable electricity, the prepared biomass is heated to over 1.000 °C. At this high temperature, most of the biomass is transformed into syngas, a mixture rich in hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The remainder becomes biochar — a stable, carbon-rich solid that captures carbon and retains nutrients.
Gas upgrading:
Bio-methane or -hydrogen
The produced syngas — a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and methane — can be refined in two different ways, depending on energy demand:
Biomethane route: Through a methanisation process, syngas is converted into biomethane (CH4) with a purity above 98%. This biomethane meets official quality standards and can be fed directly into the gas grid.
Biohydrogen route: In a water–gas shift reaction, the carbon monoxide (CO) in the syngas is then converted into additional hydrogen (H2). The hydrogen can then be purified and used directly as a renewable fuel and energy carrier.
Storage & Distribution
The biomethane or hydrogen produced in BIOSHIFT plants can be stored for days, weeks, or even seasons, and distributed through existing or emerging energy infrastructure when needed.
Biomethane: Chemically identical to natural gas (CH4), it can be fed directly into the existing gas grid and distributed to households, industries, and powerplants — offering a CO2-neutral and renewable alternative to fossil fuels.
Biohydrogen: Can be stored in pressurised tanks, converted into liquid carriers, or blended into gas networks where infrastructure allows. In the future, as dedicated hydrogen grids emerge, BIOSHIFT hydrogen can be fed directly into these networks — enabling large-scale, renewable energy distribution.
